Why homemade gifts make better holiday presents?
Everyone loves the holidays but often we (women) try to do too much. It’s easy to end up so exhausted we don’t enjoy ourselves. That’s why we’re hosting experts to share 24 holiday tips to help you re-balance how you spend your time and money during this holiday season. We hope you enjoy these tips about involving your kids in all the holiday activities, from shopping for craft materials to encouraging kids to use their talents making gifts and enjoying family.
Favorite Holiday Activity
Elayna's favorite holiday activity is the family Christmas show. Her daughters spend time rehearsing songs, making up plays and put on a program that let's them share their talents and appreciation for all the opportunities they have … like dancing in the Nutcracker.
3 Tips: Making Handmade Gifts & the Holidays
Elayna Fernandez-Bare, is the founder of The PositiveMom.com and an author, speaker and success guide. As a single mom for many years, she learned that everyone benefits when you include your kids in family decisions. She believes that the holidays provide special opportunities to teach your kids amazing life lessons, and so her holiday tips are about using your talents to make the holidays special.
Some of my favorite quotes from Elayna include practicing the “no perfection rule” to allow your children to explore anything that interests them, and “look for the teachable moments” to highlight what's important for your children. So here are Elayna's holiday tips:
- Involve your children in making decisions about the holidays and let them decide what gifts to make, and discuss the messages that are most important to them.
- Include your kids when shopping for materials. Elayna's daughters love colors and textures. Shopping makes them more excited about what they are making as gifts.
- Make opportunities to teach life's lessons, ones that will create memories to last a lifetime. They visit senior homes and take cookies, holiday cards and once they painted rocks with inspirational messages.

Most Important Holiday Goal
For Elayna, what's most important is family togetherness. It's more than being together. It's sharing with each other, connecting and learning new things that help them grow closer as a family.
