When you think of stone and seating, you probably think about different stone structures you're used to seeing outdoors. Most common are stone walls and if they're well built and low enough, they can double as seating when you've got lots of company. But maybe (hint: it's Friday's Find) there are different types of stone seating, like a stone bench or a stone seat?
Stone Bench or Stone Seat?
So if you're looking for seating and love the look of stone, you might build a stand-along stone bench or often, one or more benches are built right into a stone wall. Here is a beautiful stone bench, supported by boulders and and surrounded by stone ground cover (design by Kikuchi + Kankel Design Group).
A Stone Seat You Haven't Seen Before
Admittedly these stone seats (below) are meant to be used outdoors as side tables, extra seating and landscaping accents. These stone stairs (and planter) from Crate and Barrel are meant to look like boulders with the colors and texture used and they've got some great characteristics going for them:
- Molded from eco-friendly materials – mineral compounds, salt, sand and fiber.
- Once discarded, these stone seats will degrade back to the natural materials they're made from.
- The seats are made to withstand severe weather including ultraviolet rays, temperature fluctuations, mold and pests (note: check reviews as there have been some problems when used outdoors).
