When you go shopping you might know what you're looking for so yesterday, my focus was on new and innovative home products being showcased at the 2014 Design Construction Show combining the International Builder (IBS) and Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) trade shows. Here are the products that caught my interest yesterday.
Innovative Home Products for Entertaining at Home
Like to entertain at home a lot? Watch football, poker games or whatever you and your friends like to do … you won't run out of beer or food with this walk-in refrigerator and tap for kegs. So make sure you've got enough beer for next year's Superbowl party and let the parties begin.
At last year's show, we say many of the new sliding patio doors that truly blend indoor and outdoor living spaces, a great feature for homeowners who love to entertain at home. This year brings another unique approach to over-size, patio doors – curved doors that take home design to a new level. In fact, what you're now seeing is “interior home design' that extends to the outdoor living spaces surrounding our homes.
Innovative Home Products for Family Time at Home
One of the things I love about new home products is the focus on dual purpose, to reduce the number of products we buy, which saves everyone money and there's less stuff to store as noone seems to be enough storage space. So of course when I saw these automated shades that also function as awnings, they made my list of top innovative products at the 2014 Design Construction Show. But let's explore further:
- Great as awnings so you can enjoy the outdoors more – like relaxing and reading a book without the sun beating down on you.
- Awnings that help keep the indoors cool – you can adjust the length and tilt of the awnings to reduce how much sunlight enters your home.
- Vertical shades for privacy – at night or when noone is home, with a simple touch of a switch, the awnings move to give you a full shade.
We're all familiar with the traditional basketball hoops that live at the end of the driveway, attached to the house or a standalone basketball hoop. They're never very pretty and for some parents, it's a matter of balancing the fun and exercise you want for your children versus curb appeal.
So now's there's a solution that offers both curb appeal and a basketball hoop. Introducing the Hide a Hoop for every homeowner who's been wishing for this solution to the ugly, but necessary, basketball hoop.
Other Innovative Home Products
Everyone's becoming a photographer but what do you do with your photos after you share them on Flickr, Pinterest or Instagram? Here's an innovative company, MultiSurfaceImaging.com, that will take your photos and apply them to tile, wood, plastic or aluminum surfaces to add a personal touch to your home's furnishings.
Here we're sharing a cabinet and can you imagine photos of your family or even your kids' artwork on a table?
We hide lots of stuff in our attics (Ideas for Keeping Your Attic Organized) and we rarely use the stuff when it's difficult to get it down those nasty attic stairs. If you've got access from the floor below and enough clearance in your attic, you can install one of these remote control, attic elevators fromVersaLift, to make much better use of your attic for storage.
