When I found this video I wanted to share it because it does a great job of highlighting how complicated our lives have become. What amazes me is how much we take for granted … until something happens, i.e. no hot water or gasoline prices spike.
The title of the video is very subtle, Remind Me. It's a fun video depicting a day in the life of someone living in the UK although it's made by a French film company. Here are just a few of the things it highlights, that we take for granted each day of our lives:
- Our bodies are complicated and we only need to worry about eating the right foods, getting enough exercise and bathing.
- Our homes are made up of complex systems including plumbing, heating and more.
- The environment that supports our lives … illustrated by the water cycle.
- Our professional lives starting with commuting to work, but showing how much of what we do reaches out to the far corners of the globe.
Each of you will see something different in the video as we have such varied experiences that shape how we see the world.
For me, the story is yes our lives are complicated and we have a tremendous amount to be grateful for in our lives. While we often take everything for granted, there are enough occasions where something goes wrong to remind us about the details of our lives, i.e. today my phone lines are dead and that's after 2 weeks of repairs. Fortunately we now have cell phones so calls to my home and office are being re-routed for now.
By stepping back and looking at the big picture, we should take time to be thankful for all that we have and not get too worried about the bumps in the road.
