It's not that you don't want a guest bedroom. Sometimes there just isn't enough space to accommodate one. But guests still arrive, and you still need a place for them to sleep. That's when you need guest bedroom ideas that will work to accommodate your guests for as long as they're staying in your home.
You can remodel to create a guest bedroom, but chances are you don't need an addition to gain a guest room. (Read: 3D Remodeling Drawings Can Reduce Your Stress) The space is probably under your nose. Here are some ideas to incorporate guest sleeping quarters for last-minute visitors and help them feel as welcome as if you had a room devoted to them all along.
If you have a home office, you have an ideal spot for creating a guest bedroom with plenty of privacy. Apartment Therapy recommends it, and adds that this is a good choice because offices aren't usually as cluttered as other parts of the house might be. Situate a futon or sleeper sofa in the room permanently, and you're ready any time guests show up.
One thing to remember is that even though there might not be clutter, there will be plenty of personal information. You'll want to tuck away household bills, checkbooks, pay stubs, and anything else you wouldn't want to share with your guests.
Kids Room / Guest Bedroom
Sometimes it makes more sense to uproot the kids temporarily and let guest have a private room for sleeping. You could make the bed up with linens that are more adult friendly, since guests might not want to sleep on cartoon character sheets. And if the room has two twin beds, pushing them together is the equivalent of a king side bed, explains Elizabeth Street.
When turning over a kids' room to guests, you might also want to put away as many toys and other personal belongings as you can. Tuck stuffed animals in a closet, put homework in a desk drawer, and allow plenty of room for guests to open a suitcase and use the nightstand for their own belongings during their stay.
A Library is a Great Guest Bedroom
A library is another ideal spot to create a guest room in a pinch. It's quiet, private, and comes with plenty of reading material. As with a home office, you'll want to be sure there's nothing on the shelves that you wouldn't want your guests to read.
One really interesting way to furnish a library for guests is with a Murphy bed. With the right carpentry accents on the facade, it will look like any piece of built-in cabinetry or paneled wall, when it's closed. And when you need to use it, the bed pulls down and locks securely into place.
Living Room or Den Guest Bedroom
The living room or den is one of the most common places for guests to sleep, but it's rarely the ideal place. There's no privacy for guests if there's no door. And if you're an early riser, you'll be faced with the problem of tiptoeing around and making coffee as quietly as possible.
But if the only place where you can make it work is the living room, be sure to furnish it with a comfortable sleeper sofa. The addition of standing screen room dividers on one or more sides of the sofa can help your guests have a little more privacy, too.

But you and your guests will be more comfortable if you can provide enough privacy so that they feel welcome and relaxed.
