Glass walls are a growing trend if you're spending any time looking at homes online. While you're not surprised to see wide glass walls with ocean views, they're popping up everywhere. I first saw them at the 2013 International Home Builder show, and this year the number of styles grew exponentially. You can find glass walls with fixed glass, with folding panels like bi-fold doors and there are sliding glass panels that stack up one in front of the other (above).
You might think they're too expensive, and that might be true now. But keep watching because prices will come down as demand grows, along with competition for your home improvement dollars.
Glass Walls with Incredible Views
When you think about the time you spend at home, and what you do there … you begin to realize that how you feel is influenced by more than your home. Of course you want nice surroundings, lots of natural sunlight and views of what surrounds your house. The new trend in glass walls is recognizing how important views are, from enjoying your backyard to great views of the city below.
Some homeowners have sweeping views of the land that surrounds their home, or views of nearby water and/or mountains. Here are desert views from the 2014 New American Home in Las Vegas, Nevada. While the house doesn't have a big yard, it more than makes up for this with lots of decks off various rooms, each one making good use of the fabulous views.
Glass Walls that Open to the Outdoors
Glass walls are happening all over the world, like this lovely hillside home in the suburbs of Las Vegas. There are several decks and here is one that's covered so you can enjoy the outdoors without having the sun beat down on you.
