As houses get bigger, there's room for things we couldn't imagine previously. Yesterday, I found a bathroom in an Arizona model home that has two bathrooms! As someone who's a devoted lover of hot shower that don't cool down like bath water, I found this incredible. (Read: Bathtubs to Enjoy Life or Sell Your House) It made me realize it was time to look at what's special about freestanding bathtubs.
So join me for this fun tour as I share interesting, free standing bathtubs and imagine the things they offer. Let's start with two bathtubs in one bathroom, pictured above. Indoors you have a beautiful free standing tub side-by-side with a nice shower, that has a bench if you want to sit and mood lighting (blue here). The surprise is the outdoor shower right outside the bathroom. The stone surround bathtub is sitting in the center of a patio, which unbelievably is on the second floor.
Freestanding Bathtubs & Fireplaces
The bathroom trend behind these bathtube features is we're turning our bathrooms into spas. Some homeowners want to simply relax in their bathroom while others want to work out at home and why not keep your equipment in or nearby. And some homeowners like myself use their bathtub to give their dogs a bath (yes, that's my bathtub).
Fireplaces in bathrooms are coming into vogue so here are a few freestanding bathtubs where you can relax with the ambiance of a nearby fireplace.
Freestanding bathtubs have many shapes, like this round bathtub for 2.
Accessories for Freestanding Bathtubs
When you think back to traditional bathtubs, you realize that most had some type of surface to hold the soap, shampoo and maybe a glass of wine. So we're starting to see more accessories to provide similar support for freestanding bathtubs.
Do you love the bathtub or the lovely wine glass holder more?
Love the custom shelves wrapped around two sides of this bathtub.

Other Freestanding Bathtubs I've Found
The most fun is at the Kitchen and Bath Show (KBIS) when you can stand there and look at a dozen or more of these freestanding bathtubs, and sometimes pick one up (keep scrolling). So here are some fun photos and ones showing how homeowners are integrating freestanding bathtubs into their homes.

I really like the Oceania Legende pedestal freestanding tub for both looks and comfort.
Normally I find freestanding tubs difficult to get out of, or just flat out uncomfortable inside.
Lumbar support and built-in armrests are a must!
Equally important is finding a showroom with the tub you think you want, and sitting in it.
If you like the feel with NO water in it, you will be comfortable WITH water in it.
66″ long x 36″ wide – 42″ wide is a perfect length for me. 60″ and your knees are sticking up out of the water, and 72″ long and I float away!
