Before today, when I thought about a stone wall, I always remembered my best friend building a short (1 to 2 feet) wall along the back of her lawn. It was an act of love, one where Nance got to spend many hours talking with her son who helped her.
The wall wasn't tall but it was long and there were hundreds of rocks that had to be carried to the wall from where the truck dumped them along the road. Stone walls are found in many parts of New England, built when our ancestors cleared the fields for farming.
Elevating Stones to Art, From a Stone Wall & More
Starting today, I'll always remember how simple stones can be used to create incredible art, that is also functional in the form of a stone wall. Creators of Ancient Art of Stone, are artists Naomi Zettl & Andreas Kunert.
They offer consulting and design, and build these beautiful art forms working with clients and architects. They use stone from the mountains and valleys around their home on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, with an occasional piece from somewhere else.
Stonework, Stone Masonry or Stone Art for Your Home?
What I love about this stone art is how it fits so naturally with today's green movement. We're focusing on using more natural and sustainable materials to minimize our impact on the environment, and what's more natural than a stone wall?
So wouldn't you love a beautiful stone wall like this one? It's absolutely gorgeous and everyone will recognize your house, and you'll never have to worry about curb appeal again.
Or maybe you could add stone art to your home's exterior, rather than faux stone? Look at the beautiful way the stone is used here on the circular post and the exterior wall that's curved. It's a perfect material for this challenge. And take another look at how all the different stone work blends together – the walkway, the stone wall surrounding the water feature, the column base and the walls of the house.
Or create a dramatic fireplace surrounded by beautiful stone that's designed for your unique space and home.
