How do make sure you have healthy holidays?
Everyone loves the holidays. You get to enjoy family traditions and pass them along to the next generation … but they take time and we don’t have an endless supply of time. By adding extra activities to our busy schedule, it often means trying to do too much. It’s easy to end up so exhausted that we don’t enjoy ourselves. That’s why our experts are sharing tips to help you make sure you don't overdo things, and keep a balance between having fun and healthy holidays.
Favorite Holiday Activity
Leonaura loves getting together with family and friends for a cookie exchange. It's the perfect activity to combine a love of cookies, connecting with others and relaxing versus trying to do all the baking yourself.
3 Tips: Balancing Happiness & Healthy Holidays
The holidays are magical and we try to do it all. Dr. Leonaura (DrLeonauraRhodes.com) knows you've got to make an effort to stay healthy while trying to squeeze everything into our busy days. She speaks with experience as a busy “soccer mom” who also wants to experience life to its fullest, and she helps others find balance in their lives.
Here are Leonaura's tips for making sure you enjoy healthy holidays this year:
- Make self-care a priority and schedule time daily, to stop and reflect on all that's good in your life. It can take just 5 minutes to mediate, walk or even jump on a trampoline. The idea is to check in with yourself, and see how you're feeling.
- Balance rich holiday treats with one healthy meal each day. This will help counter the effects of too much sugar in the food and drinks you're likely to consumer over the holidays.
- Watch out for over-scheduling. It helps a lot to make lists and prioritize, so if there isn't enough time in the day, you know exactly which activities won't get done. Leonaura stressed that your health is more important than attending every party, and it's okay to thanks friends for their invitations and that you'll stop by if (and only if) there's time left in your schedule.

Most Important Holiday Goal
Leonaura loves the family time that the busy holidays afford, especially when everyone unplugs. Their family likes to play darts (you'll love her British accent), cards, take walks and watch old holiday movies. What's best is the conversations that happen when you let go of daily life.
A healthy home is so important, especially since an untidy kitchen can attract pests like cockroaches. Cockroaches can carry up to 33 different bacteria which can cause children health problems. When the lights are off, cockroaches crawl on everything including your dishes and exposed toothbrushes.
